our concept
Joan Bowen Café is a pioneer in providing a safe haven for people with mild intellectual disability to learn a vocation on the job and be gainfully employed. We started on August 9, 2009 and after 10 years, we decided to take a sabbatical to recharge, travel and get new inspirations. In December 2021, we re-started Joan Bowen Café with the original vision and mission of helping the special needs in December 2021, offering value for money meals using fresh ingredients.
The business environment has changed after the relaxation of pandemic controls, where cost has escalated amid a very tight labour market. Despite these, we have managed to complete our first-year since restarting and we are extremely proud that the café has been operated essentially by our special needs crew.
However, we have to make some changes to cope with this changed environment in that we have limited our our menu offering and also amended the operational hours.
We serve lunch from Tuesdays to Saturdays. Evening dinner sessions will be reserved for private parties from Tuesdays to Saturdays, but we will cater for walk-in dinner customers on Thursdays to Saturdays.
